Telling Their Stories On The Amazon

Writer: Ken WellsKen Wells

The women who come through the Oaks program often feel called to give back and to use their stories to help others who may be struggling.  Last week, two of them were able to travel to Brazil to share their stories and work with local tribes on the Amazon River.

Rebecca is a current resident and Sasha graduated from the Oaks to become our Resident/Re-entry Coordinator. The opportunity to participate as part of the team from United City Church was something they couldn't have imagined in their previous lives.

Over the course of a week, the group traveled up the river by boat to minister in remote villages. The mission provided villagers with medical and dental care, eyeglasses, and even haircuts.  Their main purpose was to provide bible studies, evangelism and discipleship. Sasha served in the women’s ministry and Rebecca served in door-to-door evangelism and women’s ministry.
