Female inmates leave Texas prisons with a mesh bag, a change of clothes and a 66% chance of going back to prison within five years.

Our Challenge

The statistics are shocking.

For every three women who are released from prison, two will re-offend and be sent back to prison within five years.

However, none of our graduates has reoffended since 2018.  That’s because we address the root causes of inmate recidivism.

The number of women in prison in America has increased by 700% since the 1980s.

Texas incarcerates more women than any other state, 10,500 by last count.

The population of women incarcerated in Texas prisons jumped by eight percent between 2021 and 2022.

Former Inmates carry with them a lifetime of scars.

Women in prison have experienced serious trauma and other life challenges before they were ever incarcerated.

Without help, prison is a revolving door for most inmates.

Women leaving prison face almost insurmountable challenges. Crushing poverty. Hopelessness. The temptation to return to  lifestyles that put them in prison in the first place.

The average inmate will never climb out of poverty or ever earn more than $18,000 per year. More than half will start abusing alcohol and drugs again.
